Temperature monitoring in the NHS
Abacus Guardian is pleased to have developed an excellent working relationship with a local Bedfordshire NHS Hospital.
Pharmacy Manager Nick Jones was an early participant in our NHS trials. Nick kindly agreed to adopt the system to monitor his fridges and freezers in the Dispensary, Stores and Clean Areas. He was keen to enhance his stock protection and to simplify the continuous wireless temperature monitoring he needed to satisfy his M.H.R.A audit requirements. The system was later extended to provide monitoring for a satellite pharmacy fridge out on the wards. Following twelve months of successful operation, the hospital’s Blood Transfusion Manager Paul Laundon also adopted Guardian to monitor both the core and air temperatures in the hospital’s satellite blood fridges. Ambient sensors were also installed to monitor the Delivery Suite and Theatre Recovery areas.
Abacus would like to acknowledge all the help, guidance and advice that Nick and Paul have given us throughout this period. Their shared expertise within the NHS and M.H.R.A have enabled us to enhance our system to provide a simple yet comprehensive wireless temperature monitoring solution.
Bedford Hospital NHS Trust
When the Trust needed a cost effective wireless temperature logging system for Blood and Pharmacy fridges we looked at a number of commercial systems.
Following thorough appraisal, the most cost effective solution was the Abacus Guardian system.
Having used the excellent Abacus services for over 10 years I knew that their level of understanding of the Blood Safety & Quality Regulations and Laboratory user requirement would result in a product that did exactly what we needed. We were not disappointed.
Staff intuitively use the Guardian software with virtually no training. As a Transfusion Manager, being automatically alerted and able to see temperature performance graphs of all fridges from my phone or laptop virtually anywhere in the country has an obvious operational advantage
The Guardian System offers solid performance without the high cost and complexity of similar systems. Their customer service is second to none with service and support which always impresses.
This product is an exceptionally impressive and cost effective logging solution.

There is an increasing amount of research that shows the temperature in the operating theatre help reduce patient recovery times. We trust Abacus to ensure that the temperature range is the right for us and right for our patients
I have found the system faultless and very easy to use bearing in mind we transported from Edinburgh to Liverpool with no loss of signal/data.
