How to organise your fridge for optimum food safety

Whilst there is plenty of information about the temperature regulations in place for ensuring food safety, there are other ways in which you can prevent contamination and ill health. One of these ways is through storing food in the correct manner; here is the best way of organising your fridge for optimum food safety.

Ready to eat foods – store ready to eat foods such as dairy produce, cooked meats, condiments and packaged foods at the top of the fridge, as there is less chance of these leaking and contaminating other produce.

Raw meat, poultry and fish – these should be kept on the bottom shelves, in sealed containers. When thawing frozen produce, place in a covered container on these shelves.

Salad vegetables, fruit and other vegetables – ready to eat fruit and vegetables should all be kept in sealed bags or containers in the salad drawer. This will prevent any bacteria from the upper drawers contaminating the produce. Remember to always wash raw fruit and vegetables before using.

Ensure that issues over temperature don’t affect the quality of your stored chilled or frozen storage material and compromise safe food storage.  Abacus Guardian wireless temperature monitoring allows you to remotely monitor the temperature of any room, cabinet or storage area. If the temperature drops or rises beyond the parameters that you have set you will automatically be alerted.
