Research by The Grocer as part of their ‘Ice Cream Report 2014’ has shown that frozen yoghurt sales have risen by a third in the last year, with a 30% increase making it the strongest performing sector in the wider ice cream category.

This growth is put down to its relatively healthy profile in comparison to its calorific ice cream competitors. The industry is noticeably targeting young, female consumers through social media, and this seems to working, with 43% of women surveyed having bought frozen yoghurt before, in comparison to just 36% of men.

However, the research also showed that frozen yoghurt had a long way to go in comparison with premium and luxury desserts, as well as filled cones, with relatively low value sales and only 6.3% of British households currently buying frozen yoghurt.

Paul Brown, head of sales at Lick Frozen Yoghurt puts this still low figure down to the variation in quality of products available, saying: “I’m afraid to say that not all fro-yo tastes great, and if your first experience is through inferior product, you are unlikely to come back a second time.”
