Frozen or fast food – which is healthier?
Whilst many (wrongly) believe that frozen food is less healthy than its fresh counterpart, a new study published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has shown that people who regularly eat frozen meals consume 253 fewer calories per day than those who opt for a fast food meal.
Consumer groups have shown that people are so adamant that frozen food is unhealthy, that they will opt for fast food meals over frozen ones. The study shows that these people are consuming an average of 2.6 more grams of saturated fat per day than those who opted for the frozen meal. Those who chose the frozen meal were also shown to have higher daily intakes of nutrients such as protein, fibre and potassium.
Evidently this will vary based on the meal that consumers choose, but the healthiest of frozen meals are those which contain vegetables, have a high nutrient content relative to calories, low sodium, and no trans fats.
To ensure maximum nutritional value in the frozen foods that you sell or transport, it is important to keep them at a constant temperature. Abacus Guardian allows you to remotely monitor the temperature of any room, cabinet or storage area. If the temperature drops or rises beyond the parameters that you have set you will automatically be alerted.
